1. Okay, the one thing I don't understand is why we're using the minimum function. What is that for? When do we have to use a min or a max? Why? I don't understand that. I feel like I kinda understand the rest but maybe I don't since that part is confusing to me.

2 . Also, I was just wondering... how does math research work? Do mathematicians work with the tools of notation and modeling that is current or do they come up with some theory based on intuition and then proceed to make it mathematically rigorous? It just seems like there are two sides, the intuitive and the technical. I'm better at the intuitive side for sure. I get hung up on the specifics of notation and specifications of proofs.
